What a privilege it was to attend the Big Walnut Elementary Wellness Fair. We were able to educate over 300 Kindergarten-4th grade kids on skin care and sun protection. We all have skin, we all love the sun, and most likely, we have all had a sunburn. That being said, these kids could relate to skin, sun, and a sunburn. It was very interactive, I taught the Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, and Slide philosophy regarding sunburn prevention. The kids were great with guessing what to do to prevent a sunburn, it amazes me how much they know about the subject. For props, I brought along sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, and a long-sleeve shirt. Every time they had the correct answer, I would put the item on. The classes rotated every 5 minutes, so I was reapplying sunscreen and throwing on the clothing items during every rotation. I found the kids very entertaining and I feel good about their knowledge of skin care. It was a great time and I heard we were voted as one of their favorite stops during the Wellness Fair. Thank you Big Walnut Elementary!
